We are passionate about analogue and 19th Century photographic processes and cameras.
Gallery259 is focused on art photography, and primarily analogue processes, current and historic. New Zealand does not share as deeper photographic heritage as perhaps the UK, Europe or North America by virtue of its geographical location being a colony, far away from the technological birthplaces of photographic inventions, and always having had a smaller population base which limits mass exposure to the latest greatest developments. The tagline ‘creativo fotografia’ is an attempt to get people to perhaps look again at what photography is as an art-form, and revisit the beauty of a non digital world that once was. The planet is image saturated, and most people can create beautiful images with cameras and devices. Gallery259 wants to get back to the roots of photography as a science and art process. The future of photography lies in the past.
